New assistant director brings years of experience in singing, music and voice education and choral conducting
Lauren Canna, Assistant Director, received her Bachelor of Music degree in vocal performance from Rutgers University in 1998 and her Master of Music in choral conducting from Temple University in 2001. She served as a graduate assistant at Temple, where she taught conducting to undergraduate music majors, rehearsed and managed ensembles of 30 – 300 students, and tutored undergraduate students in in music theory and music history. She also studied music at Glassboro State College (now Rowan University) and Westminster Choir College, where she was awarded “special status” to study conducting as a non-matriculated student.
Ms. Canna presently serves as a teacher of music at Cape May Technical High School and as a chorus conductor and voice teacher at Cumberland County College, where she established a Messiah Sing-Along with soloists and orchestra. She is the owner of AfterSchool Music, where she focuses on teaching classical bel canto singing and music reading. Since 1998, she has served as Production Director of Gloucester County Summer Drama Workshop/Pitman Recreation Theater and previously served as Music Director of its vocal ensemble, soloists, and pit band/orchestra. Ms. Canna has also taught at Burlington County College and at the New Jersey School of Music.
